A practical guide to electric radiant heating
Choose heating with a clearer picture.
Understand how infrared works, compare it with German clay-core and storage heaters, then explore options for your room or building.
Straightforward advice from an experienced Scottish heating supplier. Recommendations are estimates; ask us if you want help choosing.
Heating choices
Different heaters suit different needs.
We can help you compare radiant infrared panels and German clay-core heaters, as well as understand how they differ from storage heating.
Infrared panels
Radiant heat warms people and surfaces in view of the panel. Panels can be wall or ceiling mounted, with options such as mirror, picture and coloured finishes.
German clay-core heaters
Elsco’s German heaters combine a clay core with a thermostat. The core stores heat and continues to release it after the element switches off.
Storage heaters
Storage heaters charge when electricity is cheaper and release heat later. Whether that works well depends on your tariff and daily routine.
A good place to begin
Tell us about the room.
Enter the room dimensions, choose a sizing rate and see an indicative infrared output. For churches and other large buildings, use the separate high-space route.
A starting point, not a universal rule
The calculator starts at 30 watts per cubic metre. Insulation, room use, mounting and the chosen heater all matter, so you can adjust the rate and ask us to review the result.
Our approach
Clear explanations. Practical recommendations.
Explain the difference
Learn what radiant heat does and where it differs from heating mainly by warming room air.
Compare the options
Look at controls, heat retention, tariffs, product costs and how you use the room.
Ask a person
If you’re not sure, send your room details and we’ll help you consider suitable options.
